cookies in the kitchen

Bella felt better than she had in a long time. She was waiting for Fish. She just hoped it wouldn't take forever. A bit of her wished she'd stayed with him and forgot about all this family stuff.

But her mother needed her. Jane needed her. It was nice they could all get together and do something, bake sugar cookies. At least it took her mother's mind off her divorce.

"You know, Emily thought maybe you had a thing for Gordy," she teased her Mom now.

"What?" She thought she was going to give her Mom a heart attack who was making cookies with Jane in their kitchen.

"Oh, come on, you can tell me now that you really loved him," Bella smiled.

"I just think you let a good thing go. You could have never had that with Kal," her mother told her.

"What if I told you that Gordy and Kal are brothers?"

"Brothers?" Bella's mom didn't looked to pleased to know this. "How do you know?"

"Rosco told me?" Bella said while she was putting the cooled cookies in the teddy bear jar for Jane to take home.

"How did he know?"

"Gordy found out from his Mom."

"This is-" Her mother didn't have words to describe it.

"Mom, I really think I'm going back to Texas after the baby comes."

"Why would you do that, Honey?"

"I kind of have too. I don't want to. But I don't think Fish would live here in Lawrence."

"Why do you want to do this?" Her mother sounded aggravated at this new revelation that Bella had laid out.

"What am I suppose to do? Aren't you suppose to be with the one you love?"

"But we're your family," Her mother helped Jane make hand prints in the cookie dough. "He's just a stoner hippy dude who can't really offer you that much, can he?"

"Mom, he's not like that."

"He must be good in bed or something." She rolled her eyes.

"Mom!" Bella was sure her mother would never understand, and yet she was right too.

So you like writing about relationships. That's cool. Being a guy, I think that it is more understandable and acceptable that I write mainly fantasy and sci-fi.
