I want to see you smile

Emily felt lost at school. She was the lone wolf, she supposed. It had to be that way. She needed to keep her distance.

The only thing that was real to her was Casper, and he only sat at lunch with her and listened to her eat.

"I think we should go out," Emily said, wondering if he thought she was talking to someone else instead of him. She was never sure when he looked away. Just his silly grin gave her hope. "I mean, you Casper."

"And you'd let me drive?"

"Stop it." She gave him a quick scowl, but it tugged at her heart, the thought that he could never drive.

"Don't pity me," Casper told her, shaking his head.

"I'm not. I really want to be with you." Her stomach had butterflies just saying those words.

"Are you crying?"

"Kind of."

He patted her shoulder, still not looking at her.

"You have so much potential." He smiled.

"Really," Emily sniffed. "You think so."

"So, you'll be happy if you were with me?"

"Of course," Her sigh released this moment of happiness she hadn't felt in a long time. "I hate everyone, but you."

"I'm glad I'm not on that list." There was laughter in his voice then. "I don't think I'd like it."

He leaned in then. His cheek touched her and then he breathed into her ear ever so delicately. It took her breath away.

They held hands then. She kept staring at his hand. Really, she couldn't believe it. It was the best feeling she'd had in a very long time.

"Come on, I want to show you where all the drama kids go when they want to be alone with someone," Emily said leaving her trash from lunch behind her and taking him out of the lunch room toward the theater.

"I know where we're going," Casper told her.

"No you don't," Emily said. "Anyone can sit in the dark in the theater and make out during lunch."

She went into the back door of the theater and climbed up the stairs the back way to the attic where the costume room began.

"I tried out for a play my freshman year, but they gave it some Junior that year and I ended up working in costumes so I could get extra credit and pass my stupid drama class. I felt really bad for the lady who was in charge of the place. I ended up coming back in the summer to help her organize the costumes, but its a mess again." She walked into the room that was no more than a cluttered walk-in closet except it was a room, a classroom..perhaps. It was just the two of them in the dark with a bit of sunlight coming in from the roof windows.

"Maybe you can try again this year," Casper suggested.

"Its too late for that," Emily looked at him fondly. "You see, you have to get it right your Freshman year, you stick with it, you never let them down and by the time you're a Senior, you know where you're going and can't wait to go where ever that scholarship is going to take you. I'm not one of those people."

Emily touched Casper cheek then. He touched her hand, and she let him kiss her first. Its looked like someone was going to have to teach her this sort of thing all over again.

You're reading the blog backwards. The earliest post is a prologue and the second and third are the first and second chapters. It's all the same story with the same character.

And, no. I find that other people don't really let their imagination go as loosely as I do. If I can imagine something being done, trust me, a magician is going to have done it. Other people limit themselves by things as silly as plausibility. So, no. I am a part of no writing groups, though, of course, I accept criticism and editing advice from everyone who reads.
