the state of things

"Just what are you doing?" Kat took the liberty of calling Emily. It took forever for her to pick up.

"What's wrong?" Emily sounded as if she was preoccupied with something else.

"Look, we have a novice back here, and Archie is driving way too fast." Kat told her.

"Oh, Mom."

"Don't Oh Mom me. Tell him to slow down. We have no idea where we're going." Kat hadn't meant to sound so frustrating, but she felt as if she might be in Omaha sooner than she wanted to be. Then what?

What were they going to do in Omaha? Really?

She wasn't sure what was expected of her. And then this, this with Parker showing up? Was that Emily's idea, too? Kat had mixed feelings about this. Twenty years ago, OK, more like thirty, she could handle just about anything. Or so she thought. But this. Now?

There were so many things her daughters didn't know about her. Actually. Had they just guessed? And now as she spoke to Emily, she found herself sounding more like a Mom than ever. That's all she was ever meant to be, wasn't it?

She was quiet after she got off the phone.

"Is anything the matter?" Parker wanted to know.

"Of course not," she smiled. "You know, just an adventure. You know, you have to make one at every turn you take." She guessed she was on one, of course it would take some doing to keep up with the DropKick Murphys playlist that Charlotte had going.

Hmm definitely going to be an interesting ride! I quite like Kat to be honest, I do hope she gets to connect with them.

And I hope you had a wonderful Easter weekend :)
