Rosco was hoping he wouldn't have to speak to her at the Prom. After all, Carrie was the band. Well, Derrick sang, but it was Carrie that made it happen. Just the two of them. She'd get the base line going and well, Derrick followed. Actually, Rosco was impressed. Even if most of it was covers. Because he supposed that's what school dances were mostly, covers. And covers were making a comeback, evidently, in spite of karaoke and American Idol.

"Just why can't you slip in some of your real stuff?" Rosco said after Carrie had him all hugged up and was making over him in a suit. She hadn't seen him in ages, and she still had to rub in that they'd been roommates at one time.

"Are you kidding me? We might never be asked to come back." She just smiled and told him not to worry. They had themselves a little mid-west tour in the works. "You wanna come?"

"Yeah, right." He didn't believe her. Derrick didn't like him, or had she forgot. "No, that's all right." It would be much more of an effort on his part than at the Whitfield when he played with her band last summer. "I'm sure it'll be great."

"You're not tied down, are you?" She looked over at Charlotte who was chatting with some friends.

"No." He hated when Carrie started up crap like that.

"Come on, you know its your summer of freedom." She sounded so upbeat and as if he'd regret it if he didn't take her up on her offer.

"Sounds like a crazy idea." Rosco snubbed the idea. It sounded like a bad idea.

"Think about it. We'd be playing the music we want to play, not this crap."

Rosco wanted to agree with her. He did, but then he remembered it was this crap she was making a living on. He just shook his head. What kind of dream was Carrie living in?
