in the grocery store

Rosco had waited to the very last minute to say anything. It felt like the right time. There was Rachel in the grocery store with her baby.

Of course, Rosco wasn't sure what he was supposed to do with his price gun. He couldn't just leave it where he'd been or somebody else might take it for their own.

"Hey,"" Rosco hated intros because she didn't know him. It was sort of like going door to door to sale boy scouts popcorn. He was never very good at that, either.

"Rosco, right?" She smiled at him so that Rosco almost took a step back.

"Right, how did you-"

"Oh, I used to go to your brother's concerts when he played around here, and you were in the band, I remember. You were the bass player," Rachel smiled more.

"Wow, I'd completely forgot about that." They hadn't played at the Whitfield, but they'd played at a Church once and some family fun center for the 4th one year. "I mean, yeah, I played the bass."

"You think you'll get the band together, again?"

"Doubtful," Rosco nodded. "But its not about that, see uh, I'm supposed to- I don't know, its sounds crazy, but its about Andy."

"What about him?" She shrugged picking up some canned soup then to put in her grocery basket. Her chestnut hair kept falling in her face and her blue eyes kept startling him so much, Rosco kept forgetting to say anything.

"Uh, well, you need to know that Emily wasn't with Andy. I know it looked that way and all, but she feels really bad about this. She's got a problem, like this other person in her head, and they do things without her knowing."

"That is the craziest story I've ever heard." She laughed.

"I know, it is. And you don't have to believe me if you don't want to, but she wouldn't have done something like that. I know Emily."

"Well, I know Andy, and I wouldn't put anything past him. I never did really trust him. I tried. If it wasn't Emily, Rosco, it would have been someone else. And maybe I don't even care anymore. We're done."

"Oh, I should let you go then, didn't mean to keep you." Rosco backed away more.

"No, I mean, Andy and me." She grinned.

"Oh," now he felt like an idiot.

"You want to say hello to Lucy?" She took the baby out of the basket then. "She'll be a year old this month." She held Lucy around her waist.

"Hey, she's a cutie, I have a niece who's almost a year older than her, and I guess I'll be an uncle come October. Yeap, both my brothers will have kids then." Rosco beamed foolishly.

"Maybe you'll have a big family one day, too."

"Yeah, right." He let Lucy hold his finger for a bit. "I better go." He sighed.

"Are you going to homecoming?"

"Hadn't really thought about it." He thought he'd probably be working. He'd given up the idea of asking someone. A shiver ran through him just thinking about it.

"I know I'm not in school anymore, but-"

"You want to go?"

She nodded her head. He guessed it was a date then.

Homecoming, Homecoming, Homecoming.
Our school doesnt have a football team... Thus no homecoming.
You sure make it seem exciting though!

I re-read this. XD Love the grocery store love concept. Something about the produce...
And yes, Hayden does seem the generic boy-snatching charater. But, we'll see, she might just teach abelia a lesson...
