better off

Fish knew as soon as he walked through the door that something was up with Bella.

"What happened?" He did what he could with a bit of a squeeze to her shoulders.

"Nothing." She said rather numb.

"Please, don't make me figure this out," he sighed. "Just tell me. Will you?"

"Its nothing. It isn't. Nothing important." She shrugged. Gib was asleep. They had some time to their selves. He gave her a kiss on the cheek, but it didn't seem enough. He Frenched her then as if something else might be in store. A quickie or just a nap would be nice.

"If you say so." A part of him wanted to talk about moving back home. Every time, he was on the phone with his Mom, she kept telling him how mean Bella was and how she didn't think of him at all, and he'd be better off without her. It didn't matter if Mom might be right, he wasn't going anywhere without Bella. After all, he loved her even if it was one of the hardest things he'd ever tried.

"So what did you do today?"

"I spent a good portion of the day with Emily and Charlotte." She sighed as if she'd been lifting bales of cotton or herding llamas around. "I don't think she likes me."

"Emily?" Definitely a possibility, but he chose not to go there.

"No, Charlotte," Bella looked hurt about it. As if Charlotte was the only one she could be friends with. "I tried my best to help her find some new stuff so she'd look nice, you know. Her new job and all."

"I see." His eyes were heavy with sleep. Maybe he could do this better laying down. "Well, I'm sure she was glad you helped."

"No, she wasn't," Bella scowled. "She goes and buys Emily this really cute skirt, and all I get is a Ramone's T-shirt for a quarter."

"No, kidding?" Fish smiled. "Can I have it?"

"Why not." She flung it at him then from the couch.

"Sweet." He grinned.

"Why are people like this, to me?" She sighed then as if she were under the weather.

"Dunno what it could be," He yawned then. "So do I need to fix dinner now?"

"I guess so."

Fish nodded. Just once, he wished she'd be happy to see him, and there would be something to eat that he didn't have to cook.

I do so love the Fish. Can't she see what she's doing to him?

Fish's mom should button her lips; they have a baby, what is she thinking?

It was really nice of Bella to help Charlotte, but she needs to see that Charlotte was only "thanking" Emily for watching the baby so they could shop. I bet Bella would get some nice gratitude herself, if she cooked Fish dinner.

Wow, This is really well written, Cait!
I'm just a bit out of touch, LOL. I should probably go back and start at the beginning.
Well, thank you for your nice comments!

-- One of my favorite phrases of all time, Cait <3

I like Fish so much, he just got wrapped in Bella's mess. I mean, I understand she's also having a bad time but maybe all she needs is to open her eyes to other people.
That is why I love your story so much. You always create this engaging problems that make me want to know what's next :)

Bella is just one of those people that you want to hug and smack at the same time. Which is completely understandable; I tend to be the same way.

Bahaha, when a girl says "nothing's wrong" something is DEFINATELY wrong. I can relate to bella's situation...

Thanks for the comment. I'm still thinking of what Jamie should do.
