music makes the world go round

Rosco was a little blue after the whole band practice. He wasn't sure what he was expecting, but he got the vibe that Derrick hated him.

"I don't know why," he told Charlotte later after he got home.

"Hum, could it be because you lived with his wife," she beamed as if had been something scandalous.

"Well, for one thing, Carrie wasn't his wife then. And it wasn't like that. I was kind of stuck with the place. She was a roommate." He gave her a sore look.

"Sorry, but you did ask." Charlotte shrugged as she was getting out the left over pie from the fridge. She served him a slice.

"I don't like him. Maybe he knows that. I really don't." Rosco looked at his slice of blue berry pie and picked at it with a fork.

"Why is that?"

"He's a jerk. He's rich. He can do anything he wants, and he makes horrible music that people think in genius." Rosco swelled up with a frown.

"I never thought that." Charlotte shrugged. "I mean, his voice is bad, his lyrics are um, mediocre, I definitely never thought he was genius." She took a bite of pie then and sipped on the fresh black coffee she'd made. "He's not quite as cute as he used to be, either."

"You probably went to all his concerts." He could barely face the pie, but finally he managed a bite.

She shook her head, no. He thought he should change the subject before it was too late.

"So how was the movie?"

"Great," Charlotte smiled. "It was so real, you know. And I hear those were real street kids they got to use for the movie too because all the educated ones only knew proper English and were too fat. The director's in a bit of a scandal over it. I guess. But he says they have their money from the movie in trust funds going toward their education."

"Glad some-body's looking out for them."

"Those kids were the ones who made the movie, you know. But it was a movie of hope, and I loved the dance number at the end." Charlotte got up then. "Come here," she said. "Don't you want to know how they did that dance?"

"Why don't you just show me." Rosco nodded.

"No, you have to be a part of it."

"Well, you don't even have any music on."

Charlotte rolled her eyes. "OK, if I show you, you promise you have to practice with me. And then I'll download the soundtrack from Amazon, and then you'll be all set to dance with me."

"You really liked the movie that much?"

"Yes." Charlotte pulled him up from his chair. "Its like this happy dance. You'll feel so much more happier after you start it."

"And I'll look like an idiot." Rosco sighed.

"It doesn't matter." She showed him the moves then. A wiggle in the shoulders. Pointing fingers here and there along with a side step and another wiggle in the hips.

Rosco just watched. He started to laugh. Charlotte wasn't that great of a dancer, but it didn't matter. Neither was he.

She could have been doing "the Elaine" and it wouldn't have mattered. Rosco is so lucky to have her, she thought of a great way to distract him quick.

Thanks for sharing your "sleep" story on my comment page. xo
