Emily really didn't know what to get her Mom for her birthday. She and Archie had wondered around Wal-mart for some time, just to find nothing. They ended up at a jewelry store then.
"I'm sure you'll find it when you know it," Archie told her.
"She's had a terrible year," Emily sighed. "I haven't been much help. Dad left. I couldn't believe it. I just thought they'd always be together."
"Yeah, well, she seems really strong. She has her job. What does she do?" Archie asked again as they were looking at all sorts of necklaces.
"She's a secretary at the school." Emily hated it. But as it was, she never acted as if her mother worked there. Not once had she ever gone to the office to ask for her.
Archie found the birthstones then. They could be on a necklace or a bracelet.
"That's not that much to put on anything. Two birthstones." Emily shrugged.
"But its cute. She'd like it." There was a stick shape of a boy and a girl to put on a gold chain. "She seems enjoy her grandchildren."
"Really?" Emily really hadn't thought of her that way.
"Let me get it for you," Archie said.
"You don't have too." She shook her head.
"But I want to, maybe we could look at engagement rings." Archie then slightly wink.
Emily could barely catch her breath then. He was serious.
