taking chances

As luck would have it, Archie found work at the local hospital. It seemed some were going to be out of pocket for the next few months having to go back overseas since most were in the National Guard. Which he thought was odd since weren't troops suppose to be coming home soon. "Well, not for a while," someone told him.

"So no need to worry," Archie smiled at Emily. "You don't have to come to Omaha."

"But we will, right?" She squinted.

"Right? I guess. But I thought you wanted to stay here?" He was confused now.

"I have to, right now, but I don't want to live here, forever." She shrugged as she got in the car with him. They were going out to celebrate about the new job.

"What makes you think Omaha is all that great?" He almost chuckled.

"I'd be away from this." Emily pointed back to the house. "I think I need to get away."

"All right." He nodded, seeing her point, kind of. "But you'd miss them. They're family. You guys are close."

"I wouldn't say that." She looked a little sad.

"So how's your Mom's birthday party coming along?" He drove toward the main artery of town then, out toward the shopping centers and the strip malls.

"I didn't get much done today," she told him about her little adventure with Charlotte and Bella. "You'd think they were the ones who were sisters. All their bickering."

"Don't tell me you felt left out?"

"Not really, I think Bella needed to get out. See the world, so to speak. I think she needs to go back to work. Really, she gets a little strange being with Gib all the time. Like she doesn't know reality if it hit her in the head. There she was more worried about a Prom dress for Charlotte than a wardrobe for work," Emily went on about Bella then.

"Does she know how much you talk about her?" Archie smiled as they drove into the Ruby Tuesday's parking lot. They got out of the car then and held hands.

"No, I hope not," Emily said. "Can we go by Wal-mart, afterwards. I want to see how expensive this charm bracelet it is there. I want to get something for Mom. Just not sure what, yet."

"Sure." Archie put his arm around her. It felt like he'd landed on his feet into the future, and there was no going back now.

Aaahh! I love this - what a brilliant idea. I've always enjoyed making up - and reading! - big relationship sagas! I'm picking this up quite late but really enjoyed reading the last few posts. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog so that I could find this one, I'll definitely be checking back! xx

I'm glad he's so good to Emily.
Are they really leaving to Omaha? I hope we'll still hear from them anyway :)

Hey, that's a great new design you have there! What with the lines between the posts and everything. In the header, I simply adore the picture of Gordy and the baby ^^
"After all, he loved her even if it was one of the hardest things he'd ever tried." That's a beautiful sentence, in the previous chapter. Fish is a great guy. What's his real name, by the way??? But that last paragraph in the previous chapter made me sad...

About this chapter: Hey, Archie seems to be un-freezing! Great! Oh, that's interesting that it seemed to Bella as if Charlotte didn't like her, and to Emily it seems as if Charlotte and Bella got along well. I think Bella has a bit of a complex that way, thinking nobody likes her.

By the way, on my blog I gave you an award and wrote a little paragraph about you!
