who would know

Whitney had nothing better to do but to go over some of the stitches she knew for little plushie creatures that Charlotte would be helping to make during craft time starting up for the summer reading program at the library.

"I wish you were there to help me," Charlotte told her as they got needle and thread ready. "I just want to see how fast I can get, at doing this."

"You'll be fine," Whitney just smiled. "So did you have fun on your trip?"

"It was OK." Charlotte shrugged. "Parker evidently got lucky."

"Parker?" Whitney winced not sure who she was talking about.

"You know, I mentioned him before." Charlotte almost pricked herself then.

"Oh, you kind of like him, don't you?" Now she remembered. Charlotte had talked about this crazy dude she'd worked with.

"No, I don't." Charlotte scowled.

Whitney could barely hold in her laugh. "I think you do."

"No, I do not like him, he talks so much. I feel sorry for Emily's mom having to listen to him. Its just, you know, do we have to do things with them now?"

"Would that make you uncomfortable?" Whitney sewed a whip stitch then on the raw edges of the little bunny.

"I dunno. Maybe. Maybe not. I guess it would be OK." Charlotte sounded a bit freaked about it. "Its just awkward, you know, when I think of them as a couple. Will they hang out with people his age or her age? I know he couldn't have that many friends, besides me, evidently. And I have a feeling she's not going to introduce him to all those teachers at school. Would you? Lord knows what he'd say."

"You're sure this has nothing about age?"

"Not really," Charlotte winced. "OK, maybe it does. You'd just have to be very brave to do something like that. I would, anyway."

"So you're saying, Parker is better off just keeping him a secret," Whitney said as she put the finishing touches on the small stuffed animal.

"Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Possibly, it wouldn't matter about the age difference so much. Its him, you know." Charlotte nodded.

Whitney just smiled. She was glad she didn't have anything like that to worry about at work. She guessed. Although, she couldn't say she really knew any of her co-workers, either.
