simple as that

Charlotte couldn't knock this feeling that something was slipping between her and Rosco. She didn't know what it was and if she talked about it...it would sound stupid. But they'd gone out to IHOP with Carrie and Derrick after prom. Not that she minded. After all, Carrie had a lot to talk about. Music stuff. Like something big might happen. But Charlotte doubted it would have anything to do with music.

It practically put Charlotte asleep. She wasn't even sure why she came. But she soon found herself having to look at Derrick who was actually looking at her. And now when she thought about it. Maybe he was coming on to her.

"No, no, doesn't sound like he was coming on to you at all," Rachel assured her. It was as if she'd stomped out a flame of passion just by her simple sentence. "He would have said something to the effect that he wanted to see you. Like ask you for your phone number or something."

"Right." Rachel had a point and really Charlotte didn't think of herself as one of those who thought every guy was hitting on her. Usually, someone had to come up to tell her, "didn't you notice how that guy was around you?" Of course, she worried that Derrick might have thought she was hitting on him.

She'd talked to him. Asking him all sorts of questions about song writing, and the local music industry and his fans and his future in indie rock. She kept looking at Rosco and Carrie who were really into talking it up, and she felt herself asking one more question. Derrick so loved to talk about himself. No wonder he was the lead singer of the band.

"Shit." Charlotte stomped away just then as Rachel was pressing her for more information about Derrick in the breakroom at the library. "That's it! He thinks I came on to him."

Just then the phone in the breakroom buzzed. Somebody shouted that the phone was for Charlotte.

She picked up and guess who?

No surprise there, of course he called her. Men love to talk about themselves, it's a big turn on for them. I think it goes straight to their second brain.
