reflex

Rachel hated the fact that Gordy had to drive all that way to Iowa to pick up Rosco.

"I should have never let him go alone." Every little firecracker she heard outside was worrisome to her. She couldn't wait for him to be home. Of course, she had Charlotte over, and she was busy keeping the girls doing crafts.

"Rosco is with him." Charlotte told her.

"You should have never left Rosco out there," Rachel said so coldly as if Charlotte was the worst girlfriend in the world.

"What does it matter to you?" Charlotte winced.

"Well, everything would be just fine, now wouldn't it? If he were here?" Just then what sounded like a Dillinger show down went off across the street. Rachel gritted, practically giving herself a headache.

"Its just fireworks, Rach." Charlotte sighed.

"I don't care. I don't like them." She hugged herself.

"Daddy says we're going to the baseball game to see the fireworks." Jane jumped up on Charlotte then.

Rachel scowled at that too.

"How fun," Charlotte smiled. "Rosco and I want to come too."

"I want a hot dog at the game." She told her.

"I want a babysitter." Rachel looked at the ceiling.

"Maybe you should stay home, and we can help Gordy with the girls?" Charlotte told her. "They'd be so disappointed if they don't get to go."

"I know, I can't let them down. I'd be a mess if wasn't there." Rachel told Charlotte.

"Well, you're going to drive the rest of us insane if you don't figure out a way to chill." Charlotte put her hands on her hips. "You really have to relax, Rach."

"All right. All right. I want too. I need too." But Rachel felt herself still in this cemented state of something awful about to happen. Just then she heard a couple of cardoors slam. She looked out the livingroom window. It was Gordy and Rosco. Rachel let out a sigh of relief. At least that was over worrying about. Now how long could she stay calm?

Rachel definitely needs to chill..but I've seen mother's like this before...including my own.

When my kids were little, I used to worry about every little thing. Then one day a friend of mine told me "Stop dwelling on all of these things. Believe me, if something bad should ever happen, you'll deal with it then. So stop dealing with it now." She was so right. Living in fear is not living.

Rachel is so real when it comes to her emotions. I like that about her. Although, I know she wishes she could change..but its not that easy to turn that part of emotion off.

I'm glad they arrived home and Rachel could stop worrying...it could get the better of her one day!

I suppose mothers will always worry. Hope everything is ok with Rachel, she really needs some 'me' time.
