deep into the night

"All right," Rosco called his brother Kal immediately who was still in Austin. It might have been two in the morning, but he didn't care. "Listen up, I've got Bellas phone number and her address and all you need to do is to do the right thing."

"What? What are you going on so? What could possibly be the right thing?" His brother sounded as shitty as he ever was.

"God, you have to talk to her. You have to care. Somehow. Maybe you won't win Dad of the year, but just at least be there. Will you?" Rosco thought this was hopeless. "Just do something."

"I don't know, I don't feel well. I'm not sure I can ever look at her, again." Kal's voice cracked. "I really loved her, you know. Then she left me."

"You left first."

"It wasn't like that, I had things to do. She knew that."

"Don't tell me the fuck'n story, tell her! Tell her what a miserable bastard you are. It doesn't matter if she doesn't take you back. It matters that she knows you care." Rosco winced.

"See thats the trouble, I don't know if I can care now. She's with someone else."

"Well, who fucked that up?"

"I know. I'm not very good with this sort of thing."

"Yeah, you're a lot like Dad, and you know how well that worked out," Rosco told him as he was in the kitchen now thinking he'd be up awhile. Maybe he needed a sandwich or something.

"Don't say that."

"He was a drunk, too. Remember that. The women came first, and afterwhile it was just the alcohol that lasted longer and he stayed with." Rosco went on to say. "So those are some things to haunt you the rest of your days. So get with the program before its too late. See Bella. Do the right thing." With that Rosco shut his phone and went to make a peanutbutter sandwich, but then he couldn't eat it.

He got back in bed, turned away from Carrie. Before he knew it, she had both arms wrapped around him and her head on his side.

"I thought no touching was the rule," he said as his hand touched her hair and down her back. He turned back. Her head was on his chest then.

"I know, but you need a hug," Carrie said.

Shots of coldness and warmness went through his chest as she touched him. He thought he might start to shake. He took a deep breath and closed his eyes. Rosco thought he might break into a sweat as she kissed his chest then nibbled at his lip just a little until he kissed her.
