fridgid things

Gordy didn't want to go. Didn't care if he met Fish or not. Why was it so important, anyway? They'd talked over the phone, but then he didn't want to bring that up when he saw him. God, he hoped Fish wouldn't mention it.

At least he had Floyd and Delia by his side. Jane had her arm around his neck. It was going to be all right. Everything good he had was with him and nothing bad could happen, could it?

There was Emily to face. He just didn't know what to say. What could he say? He hadn't called her. It was so awkward to think about. Awkward to do. And he didn't feel strong at all. He felt a little shakey. Even now.

Of course, it was Emily who approached him first with a baggie of goodies for Jane. She didn't say a word to him, but was all apologetic for missing Jane's birthday completely. "I bought this stuff months ago, and couldn't remember where I put it." She was talking to Jane as if they were the same age, like old best friends from school.

He gave Jane to Emily. Immediately, Jane looked at her pile of prizes which was just junk from the dollar store, but Jane was pleased.

Floyd naturally shot the breeze with Fish. Immediately, they were friends. Gordy could barely smile. He felt faint. He backed away and took a step outside. It was all getting to him. Yet the chill of Autumn awoke him as he looked at the dry grass outside.

It was hard to say if it was a panic attack or just what. Maybe it was nothing. He looked up at the heavy cloud coming over the sun. Instantly, he felt a chill.

"What's up?" He looked up to see Rosco who was with Rachel.

"I didn't know you were coming?" Gordy stared at the both of them. This instant family he'd always wanted. And by the looks of it, Rosco was so much better at it than he'd ever be.

"I didn't really want to, but you know. I'm kind of an uncle and all." Rosco shrugged carrying Lucy. "Is there cake?"

"I don't know."

"I guess we'll find out, Rach." Rosco sighed as she was expecting him to go through the door first.

Gordy wished Rosco had stayed with him. They didn't talk much anymore, and he wished he could fix that. But he guessed he couldn't.

Gordy's nose began to water. He thought he'd walk home. The wind could get as cold as it wanted. He was damn sure not going to feel it.

Oh, Emily is so great. I think she is taking the best way to make Gordy feel less uncomfortable around her. Emily has a really good way with Jane.

I imagined Floyd and Fish would hit it off.

The family connections are so complicated now ^^

Oh, poor Gordy...
