nerves

As soon as Rachel's Mom told her she was going to her sister's for Thanksgiving, Rachel couldn't wait to call Gordy.

"I know she wanted me to go, but I was not going to drive four hours with a fifteen month old. Then back in one day. Well, actually, Friday, but everyone goes Christmas shopping the day after Thanksgiving." Finally, she took a breath and decided she'd said to much. He didn't have to know all this stuff. There was a pain of emotion that just wouldn't stop. She so wanted to be who he'd like to talk to, but she wasn't. She melted into tears instantly. "Anyway, lets just do Thanksgiving here. If thats OK with you."

"Are you crying?" He then asked.

"No," she said. "Why would you say that? I have a cold. Sinuses, something." She took a deep breath then.

"OK, if you say so. You don't have to go to all this trouble, you know."

"But I want to," she said. "People just might not want to show up."

"They will," he told her. "Have you talked to Whitney, I know she'd help."

"Not yet, but I will."

"You don't have to call Bella,"

"I don't?" That was relief. No Bella which meant no Emily. No Andy either. She could do this. It would be a small gathering. Maybe Rosco. Maybe.

"I'll take care of that."

"Oh."

"You call Andy." Gordy mentioned Lucy's father then.

"I don't want to."

"It would be a nice thing to do, doesn't mean he'd come, you know." Gordy added. Rachel hadn't thought of that. She could ask and he wouldn't have to come.

Rachel took a deep breath, she could do this.

"Just try not to be so nervous," Gordy said before he hung up. So that's what he thought of her. Rachel nursed her upper lip.
