what comes around

By the time Gordy and Rachel got back to the table it was time for cake.

Thank God, they hadn't waited, thought Emily. Really, could it be anymore obvious? And Rachel ate as if she hadn't eaten all day. What was up with that? Well, Emily didn't have to think on that one. She looked at Archie then at everyone else.

Did everyone think they, she and Archie, were doing it?

Well, obviously, they must. Because well, she was Emily, after all. But as it was it had just been a pleasant moment of finding the right kiss. It had been a very thorough investigation. Actually. And well, the more it happened. The better it got. And really, wasn't it all in the kiss? She hated those movies that only cleverly approached on one thing. Perhaps just oral sex or intercourse. God, why had she watched so much of Kinsey last week. Now it just flooded back to her. Did that professor really know anything? Really? As she needed to dwell on this as they were dishing out cake.

"I'm in dire need of some practice." Emily suddenly found herself saying. Then she felt quite silly for saying it since no one knew what she was talking about. Perhaps it was the thought of just kissing Archie. "I mean, uh, hairstyling. Cutting hair. I cut Archie's hair." She looked at Charlotte then. "How about a haircut?"

"Right now?"

"If you want, or you could come over, anytime you have time. I would do it." Emily smiled. "And anyone else. If they don't mind."

"You've always cut Rosco's hair." Bella chimed in, but Emily gave her a stare that this was not a good time to bring that up.

"That was so long ago." Emily tried to smile, "I'm really focusing on," she looked at Rachel then. "Perhaps you need a trim?"

"Well, I would love to see what you could do to mine," Serena then smiled. Her hair was pulled back in a thick ponytail.

"Great." Emily looked down the chocolate cake, so moist and delicious. "Maybe I should put an order in for a cake. Mom's birthday is next month."

"Really?" Bella looked puzzled. "How old is she now?"

"49." Emily said.

"She's gonna be 50?" Bella looked as if that was an awful number.

"No, 49." Emily looked at her.

"Its funny, I'll always think of her when I was a kid, and she was like twenty something, you know," Bella then said.

"Well, we have to do something," Emily told her. "Her divorce is final and she needs to know, things are just going to be better now." Of course, Emily knew they could only be so much better. The woman did have to live with her grown daughters along with a sun-in-law and a grandchild.

Emily is so trying. I hope it'll work for her.

Hey, wait a minute, I'm 50. And I live with my grown up daughter and my grand daughter. Honestly, If they weren't here, life would be pretty dull. Instead of focusing on "better", living the "now" is pretty fulfilling. See how I always make everything about me?

Ahh, Emily is still my favorite.

I love when people accidentally voice their thoughts.
